Treat your teeth like royalty with dental crowns

Dental crowns are deluxe fillings

If you have a broken, infected, or decayed tooth that has too much damage to be treated with a traditional filling, a dental crown may help. Dental crowns are custom-fit prosthetics that fit over your existing tooth and provide strength and protection from damage. They are both durable and functional, so you can use them to enjoy a full diet, and because they look and feel like a real tooth, nobody will ever need to know they’re not!

What Is a Dental Crown?

Dental crowns can repair a variety of tooth problems in one treatment

A dental crown is essentially a deluxe filling, however instead of it fitting inside the tooth, it fits over the tooth after your dentist has removed the damaged or decayed portion. Dental crowns are customized to look and feel just like your natural teeth, so not only do they work like real teeth, but they are also virtually indetectable in your smile.

If you have a tooth with a significant amount of decay or damage but that still has strong roots, you may be a good candidate for a dental crown.

Dental crowns can repair larger cavities, cracks, and decay without the need for tooth extraction and replacement.

The Process of Getting a Dental Crown

The process of getting a dental crown is easier than you might think

The dental crown process is easy. First, you’ll visit Androscoggin Dental Care and have impressions made of your damaged tooth. Next, your dentist will remove the damaged portion of your tooth, leaving behind a base that your crown will cover. You will then be fitted with a temporary crown while your impressions are sent to the dental lab for your permanent crown to be created with. The temporary crown will protect your tooth from further damage and help you get adjusted to what it will feel like with your permanent crown.

Your new crown will take about two weeks to complete at the dental lab. Once it is finished, it will be sent back to Androscoggin Denal Care, and you will return to have it attached. If it fits well, your dentist will cement it in place. If it does not, we can send it back to the lab for adjustment so it fits just right.

Benefits of Getting a Dental Crown

There are many benefits to getting a dental crown, including protecting your healthy teeth

Failure to protect a damaged tooth could result in worsening oral health problems, including loss of the tooth. Thankfully, dental crowns can frequently prevent this.

Dental crowns have many important benefits, including:

  • Improved comfort and chewing capabilities
  • Protection for your natural teeth against extraction or further damage
  • The ability to correct many different oral health problems in one treatment
  • Customizable to match your surrounding teeth

The average crown lasts around ten years, but with proper care and maintenance including brushing, flossing, routine dental checkups, and mindfulness while chewing, you can often extend their life to fifteen or more years.
